Low back pain, symphysis pubis dysfunction, SI joint instability or blockage: these are terms that actually belong to the specialist vocabulary of orthopedists and physical therapists. But they are also anything but unfamiliar to midwives. For pregnant women, however, they remain, in the best case scenario, exactly that: unfamiliar!

We are talking about problems relating to the musculoskeletal system of the spine, hips, and pelvis—an area that has to cope with particular challenges due to the changes that occur during pregnancy. However, those affected need quick and professional support from medical experts. Products that gently support the particularly stressed areas of the body can be helpful. They can alleviate discomfort and, in many cases, prevent it from getting worse.

Spinova^® Mum: the maternity support belt

Spinova Mum is available for use before and after childbirth to gently treat back and pelvic pain. It reduces lordosis, stabilizes the pelvis, and gently lifts the abdomen using its unique belt system. It can be used for

Lumbar spine indications:

• Pain and instability
  in the pelvic/lumbar spine region
• Lumbago
• Radicular, pseudo-radicular lumbar syndrome
• Acute or chronic lumbar sciatica
• Moderate lumbar deformity
• (e.g., hyperlordosis)
• Prolapse

Other indications:

• symphysis loosening
• pubic symphysis separation
• sacroiliac joint pain
• Diseases of the sacroiliac joints
  (SI joint syndrome, SI joint osteoarthritis, SI joint instability)
• ISG blockage (acute and prophylactic)

Instructions for use

Women can wear the pregnancy brace on their skin or over light clothing. If wearing the brace feels uncomfortable, women should take it off immediately and discuss how to proceed with their doctor.

If necessary, the orthosis can be washed by hand using a mild detergent. Before washing, all Velcro fasteners should be closed and the pads removed.

The Spinova Mum pregnancy brace is made of mesh material and features a soft abdominal closure and tension straps that control an elastic abdominal lift strap and a non-elastic pelvic strap. This allows the brace to provide targeted relief and stabilization as needed. Corset stays run along the back, straightening the lumbar spine and counteracting a possible hollow back. Two SI joint pads can be individually positioned in the back area to help relieve pain. These can also be removed as needed.

The Spinova Mum maternity support thus has a triple effect:

Relieving belly lift: Flexible strap lifts the belly and helps relieve pressure on the back (back muscles). Preserves freedom of movement for mother and child.

De-lordosis of the lumbar spine (LWS): Tension straps and corset rods form a three-point principle against hollow back.

Stabilization of the pelvis: A belt encircling the pelvis with pads stabilizes the SI joint and relieves pressure on the symphysis. Tilting the pelvis backward increases the lordosis.
